EVENT INFORMATION
WHAT: An Introduction Level Course to Avalanche Safety and FUNdraiser Event. One full day of morning in-classroom instruction followed by a half-day of on-snow training instruction.
WHO FOR: All genders, ages 14 and older who are interested in starting or refreshing their knowledge of snow and avalanche safety in and out of bounds, and who enjoy a good time for a good cause. We also offer WOMEN’S SPECIFIC clinics at every location.
WHO BY: Taught by AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) Avalanche Instructor and professional skier, Ingrid Backstrom and professional skier, Elyse Saugstad. Additionally, professional skier, Cody Townsend may join as a guest instructor as well.
WHERE/WHEN: Location of events will take place at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska in an indoor conference space for the classroom portion and outside on-hill for the afternoon portion. The event will start at 7am sharp and end at 5pm (possibly 6pm).
GEAR NEEDED FOR EVENT: Participants are asked to provide their own avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, and backpack. We will have a few extra sets of safety gear to loan, but no backpacks. Touring equipment will NOT be used at this event as we will be at a partner resort for the on-snow training.

COST: $140 – Includes in-classroom instruction, small group on-snow instruction, lift ticket (if needed), a healthy lunch, and an apres/debrief with a raffle full of awesome gear donated by supporting sponsors. $110 Student Rate for those that can provide a current transcript or student ID. CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY: If a participant has extenuating circumstances and needs to cancels 7 days prior to the start date of the clinic a full refund will be issued if approved by SAFE AS. If a student cancels within the 7 days prior to the course the tuition is non-refundable. The participant will, however, have the opportunity to transfer to another scheduled clinic if space is available. The registration fee may not be forwarded to the following calendar year. IF SAFE AS Clinics cancels the course for any reason a full refund will be given. This cancellation and refund policy pertains to all clinic participants. No exceptions to the policy can be made.
COVID POLICY: For our students', instructors' and fellow resort riders' safety, our COVID policy for SAFE AS prohibits any student or instructor experincing any symptoms that are believed to be COVID related or tests positive within the 72 hour window from attending any SAFE AS event. To avoid any hardship this may create for our participants, we are more than willing to give a refund. THIS POLICY IS MEANT TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE IN EXTREME CASES, therefore we are relying on the honor system of our participants to not abuse this in the event of other, non-COVID related absences so that we can keep SAFE AS funded for all participants in the future.
